A bright smile always makes us feel good. And when that smile is ours, it gives us confidence and lifts us up psychologically.

Unfortunately, many times, the discoloration of the teeth will not allow us to have the smile we want. But it's a factor that can be easily dealt with by whitening your teeth.

What is teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is the process by which the tint of the teeth is lightened without removing or injuring their surface. It can not achieve a complete color change, but the change in tint that is achieved is noticeable.

How many ways are there to whiten your teeth?

There are two ways, one is whitening in a dental clinic while the other is whitening at home.

Whitening in a dental clinic

Teeth whitening in the dentist is done using laser or led and can last from 1 to 3 visits of 45 minutes each, depending on the discoloration of the teeth. While the bleaching process is painless, after its completion the patient may feel some sensitivity. This is temporary and is treated with special preparations recommended by the doctor according to the needs of each patient.

Whitening at home

To whiten your teeth at home, you will need a special molding tray which your doctor makes using a mold of your teeth. Of course, the whitening product that your dentist will recommend depending on your case is also necessary. The treatment period and the way of using the molding tray (day or night, for how long each time) differ depending on the product used for whitening.

How long does the effect of teeth whitening last?

The duration of the effect, as one would expect, varies from case to case. In some cases, the effect may remain visible even 2 years after treatment. However, the consumption of brightly colored foods and beverages (such as red wine and coffee) and especially smoking negatively affect the duration of the effect, which can no longer remain visible for over 6 months.

An interesting practice for a longer lasting result is the combination of whitening in the clinic and at home. You can start with whitening your teeth at your dentist and then, with the appropriate materials and after first consulting your doctor, you can maintain the result on your own.
